FAQs
Do I need off-road riding experience?
No. COTA works with riders of all experience levels, from complete beginners to experienced Enduro and Adventure Bike riders. Edgar adjusts the training to your current ability, motorcycle and goals so you can improve safely and confidently.
What is the difference between Enduro and Adventure Bike training?
Enduro training is designed for riders on lighter off-road motorcycles who want to improve their control in technical terrain. Adventure Bike training focuses on managing the size and weight of larger Adventure and Dual Sport motorcycles on dirt, gravel, hills and uneven terrain.
What is the difference between private and group classes?
Private classes are built around your individual riding level and goals, giving you more direct coaching and time to work on specific skills. Group classes follow a structured training program while still giving each rider individual feedback throughout the session.
Do I need to bring my own motorcycle?
Yes. All riders must bring their own motorcycle. Your bike should be in good working condition and appropriate for the class you are attending.
Does COTA provide rental motorcycles?
No. COTA does not currently provide rental motorcycles for training classes or Baja tours. Riders must bring their own motorcycle.
What riding gear do I need?
All riders must wear complete protective riding gear. This includes a DOT-approved helmet, goggles or eye protection, gloves, riding boots, long riding pants and appropriate upper-body protection. Additional protection such as knee guards, elbow guards and body armor is strongly recommended.
What motorcycles are suitable for training?
Enduro classes are designed for off-road and Enduro motorcycles. Adventure Bike classes are designed for street-legal Adventure and Dual Sport motorcycles. If you are unsure whether your motorcycle is suitable, contact COTA before booking.
Where does the training take place?
COTA training takes place in the San Diego area and at selected off-road riding locations throughout Southern California. The exact location depends on the type of class, terrain conditions and rider experience. Meeting details will be provided after your booking is confirmed.
How long are the classes?
Class duration depends on the type of training and the needs of the riders. Full schedule details will be provided when your class is confirmed.
What skills will I learn?
Training can include body position, balance, clutch and throttle control, braking, cornering, slow-speed control, hill climbs, descents, line selection and navigating technical terrain. The exact curriculum will depend on your motorcycle, experience and riding goals.
Can COTA help me prepare for a BDR or Baja trip?
Yes. COTA can help you prepare for longer off-road trips, BDR routes and Baja riding. Training can focus on motorcycle control, endurance, terrain management, hill riding, line selection and the practical skills needed for long days on the bike.
Can I book training for my own group?
Yes. Private group training is available for friends, riding clubs and riders preparing for an upcoming trip. Contact COTA with the number of riders, motorcycle types and experience levels so the right class can be arranged.
What happens after I submit a booking request for a private session?
After you submit your information, Edgar will review your riding experience, motorcycle and training goals. COTA will then contact you to confirm availability, the most suitable class and a confirmation with the location.
Does COTA offer Baja tours?
Yes. COTA offers small-group Baja tours led by Baja champion Edgar Cota. These experiences begin with two days of training in the San Diego area before riders continue into Baja on a carefully planned route.
Tours are designed for small groups and include professional guidance, selected trails, quality accommodations and a strong focus on safety. Riders must provide their own motorcycle and riding gear.
For more information, contact COTA with your preferred dates, number of riders, motorcycle type and riding experience.
